Chris Jericho, Darby Allin, Brody King, Strowman, Rey Mysterio, Penelope Ford, Leon Slater, Rhodes, Royal Rumble – Saturday’s Wrestling News for January 17th, 2026

Chris Jericho

He may or may not be at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, but Chris Jericho is definitely booked for the Big Texas Comicon on March 7th & 8th in San Antonio.

Darby Allin says he has a chip on his shoulder: “Every time I make an entrance, I have a chip on my shoulder that I have to show everybody what I’m capable of, because I never want to get complacent. It’s my biggest fear. I watch these guys get somewhere and then start going through the motions. When people in the locker room treat it like spring break, it (ticks) me off. I have to give everything to wrestling because wrestling changed my life, so I’m going to treat it with the respect it deserves.”

Brody King and Headlocked Comics are teaming up to create a special variant comic book cover, with options including King and/or his autograph, and all proceeds going to MIRAC. “MIRAC is an all-volunteer, grassroots, multiracial, and multinational immigrant rights mass-movement organization” in Minnesota assisting those targeted by ICE raids.

USA Network had “no difficulty” in getting WWE’s approval to use Braun Strowman’s name for their Everything on the Menu show, even though Adam Scherr is obviously no longer with the company and even refers to himself as “semi-retired” from pro wrestling. (FF)

Rey Mysterio missed Raw this week due to “a minor injury” and will be back soon. (WO)

Penelope Ford has been cleared to return to the ring at any time. (WO)

Leon Slater answered Carmelo Hayes’ open challenge on SmackDown but did not win.

Cody Rhodes declared himself for the Royal Rumble on last night’s show.
