WWE star Santos Escobar, previously known as both El Hijo del Fantasma in AAA and King Cuerno in Lucha Underground, decided to let his WWE contract expire at midnight last night. He was offered a new deal with a pay raise but didn’t want to “spin his wheels” by signing only to not be used. (PWI) He has a point since he hasn’t been a featured performer since WWE ran a show in Mexico on June 27th where he teamed with Angel and Berto to face Mr. Iguana, Pagano & Psycho Clown.

The Rock was reportedly only paid $4 million for The Smashing Machine, well below his typical $20 million asking price for a starring role. Although he voluntarily took a pay cut because it was a passion project for him, it’s lucky for A24 that he did, as the movie TANKED at the box office over the weekend. It only grossed $6 million total, and theaters split ticket sales with the movie studio 50/50, so they haven’t even covered what they paid Mr. Johnson yet. Despite that the movie is still expected to be profitable thanks to overseas distribution and streaming rights combined with low production costs.
Following Laredo Kid’s departure from TNA, both he and Octagon Jr. (who had been teaming with him as the Aztec Warriors) have been removed from TNA’s online roster. (FF)
