I have two sad deaths to report to you today. PAC (Benjamin Satterley) unexpectedly passed away on Sunday at only 40 years old. This is the kind of news I saw on a “trending” tab and didn’t want to believe or expect to be real, as that kind of thing is so often wrong, but All Elite Wrestling themselves shared the news in my linked post. Before he worked for AEW, you may have known him as Adrian Neville or Neville in WWE. Before and after that you could easily have seen him in multiple promotions worldwide, often having the best match of the night with his opponent. In fact his Dragon Gate USA match at Mercury Rising 2011 with Akira Tozawa is (in my own mind) the best live bout I’ve ever seen. He was billed as “The Man Who Gravity Forgot” and in every respect lived up to it. Telling you all the places he worked and titles he won would be an exercise in futility as his Wikipedia entry for it is several pages long and even that is incomplete. He’s easily one of the best of this century, right up there with the likes of Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe and Kazuchika Okada to name a few. I don’t know what happened to him or why but I do know this is a tremendously devastating loss to me and to the entire wrestling community. My condolences to his family and friends worldwide.
I wish that was all I had to say about deaths over the weekend — unfortunately it’s not. Rick Achberger a/k/a The Sign Guy passed on Sunday after battling health issues for the last two years. His distinctive blue shirt and red hat at ringside, always accompanied by a funny sign to pop both wrestlers and fans alike, made him a fixture of WWE programs for many years. Our good friend Frank Vaughn (a/k/a Nikes the Sneaker Pimp) had the pleasure of interviewing him twice for podcasts on the previous incarnation of this website, and although I can’t currently find it I could swear I bumped into him at WrestleMania once myself. It’s probably on a phone I no longer own, synced to a computer I no longer use. Such is life. If I’m gaslighting myself into that one at least I know the podcasts were real and he was a super nice guy — just a “super fan” who enjoyed being the Where’s Waldo? of wrestling and letting you spot him at the shows, even though he was never hard to find. In fact there were many conspiracy theories about how he always seemed to get a ringside seat and what it must have cost him. His wrestling notoriety even landed him an appearance on Deal or No Deal, where he sold a briefcase containing only $100 for $106,000. Not too shabby. My condolences to all of his family, friends and fans.

- IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match: Yota Tsuji def. Hirooki Goto. Tsuji calls Ryohei Oiwa to come into the ring. Oiwa said he has the stronger style, and Tsuji hyped their match as the best possible.
