On a recent podcast Chris Jericho talked about the late Sabu (Terry Brunk): “I don’t think I’m talking out of school here in saying that I did get a text from him. As a matter of fact, it’s the last text I got about a week before he passed away, saying, ‘Aye, in six months, you wanna have another match? I wanna have another match.’ So I think he had his retirement match, but still wanted to have other matches and I know that Rob (Van Dam) talked about it where Sabu said it’d be cheating to have a match against Rob because they’re so close. I did get an inquiry from Sabu, who was saying he wanted to have another one and that’s a classic, old-school brother wrestling story too. He was great on (the Jericho Cruise). He did a live podcast which was great. He got to reunite with Luther, his old friend from FMW, but he was texting me prior for years and he’d say he wants to come on the cruise and he wants to do a match with me where the loser jumps over the edge into the water. Here’s the classic Sabu part, he goes, ‘Now I’ll beat you, but I’ll still jump over the edge into the water.’ I’ll beat you on your own cruise, and then jump basically to your death.”
Via social media Poison Sawada Julie announced that a new version of DDT Pro’s Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship will be revealed on June 29th to celebrate the title’s 25th anniversary. If you’re not familiar with it this is the real life “24/7 Title” that can be won by just about anyone, anywhere, any time. In fact inanimate objects (including a ladder and a blow up doll) have won the title as well as abstract concepts (all the subscribers to a YouTube channel) so the only rule is that there are no rules. Even my friend Chris is a former Ironman Heavymetalweight Champion. The current champion is voice actor Tetsu Inada.
Jordynne Grace talks about her dreams of being a WWE champion: “It’s what I’ve been working toward, I feel like, the past 15 years. Every sacrifice I’ve made, every win, every loss, every title I won at TNA has come down to finally being able to live my dream as a WWE champion. I want to be the one to give whoever comes in front of me their best match, no matter what. I always ask the person I’m wrestling with, ‘What was your favorite match?’ They would tell me, I’d be like, ‘We’re going to have a better match than that. We’re going to say it right now and we’re going to speak it into existence.’ That’s what I always want to be for that person.”
Jushin “Thunder” Liger is no longer booked for The Gathering VI: “As I announced tonight on the live unfortunately Jushin Thunder Liger has to be pulled from our event. Refunds will be coming if you put a pre order in for him since we made the announcement. Bear Bronson has announced his departure from AEW and that he’s now a free agent. This is not surprising and in fact expected ever since the shocking allegations against his former tag team partner Bear Boulder saw AEW cut ties with Boulder almost immediately.
