It’s time for another episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event! Live at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, we will crown a new World Heavyweight Champion with CM Punk vs. Jey Uso for the vacant title! Cody Rhodes defends his WWE Championship when he takes on Drew McIntyre one-on-one! Jade Cargill challenges Tiffany Stratton for her WWE Women’s Championship! Also, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio defends his Intercontinental Championship against Penta and Rusev in a triple threat match! Michael Cole runs down the card as we see all the superstars involved in tonight’s matches, and we get a video package to do the same. Cue the stage pyro! Cody Rhodes is out as the first superstar to start the show! “WHOAAA-OHHH!” Michael Cole is joined by Wade Barrett on commentary. Drew McIntyre heads out next full of confidence, because he has this match now with no champion’s advantage – meaning that Cody can lose the title is he is counted out or gets DQ’ed. Lilian Garcia is back again for Saturday Night’s Main Event to do the proper title match introductions. Drew McIntyre demands that she announce him with the “The Real American Dream” moniker. Dan Engler is the referee assigned to this match, he shows off the championship, and calls for the bell to start.
* Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes {C} vs. Drew McIntyre
[If Cody Rhodes gets disqualified or counted out, he will lose the championship.]
McIntyre side-steps him at the bell, he gets a rear waistlock, Cody reverses, knee to the midsection, and stomps him down in a corner. McIntyre with a throat chop, hard chop to the chest, Cody responds with his own chop, McIntyre chops him down, and Cody hits a gourdbuster. McIntyre exits the ring, beckons Cody to follow him outside, but Rhodes thinks twice as he could lose the title if he’s counted out. McIntyre gets back in the ring, they lock up collar-and-elbow, Rhodes with a side headlock, and McIntyre shoves him towards the ref but no collision. They lock up again, McIntyre pushes him to a corner while grabbing his hair, clean break, and dares him to lose his temper at him. They go for a knuckle lock but McIntyre kicks him in the gut, chops and punches him, bites his forehead while shielding the ref’s vision, Rhodes hits the drop-down uppercut, and starts to fight back stomping a mudhole in him. The ref tries to back him off but Rhodes nearly strikes him in the process.
McIntyre takes advantage with a clobbering blow to the back of the head, shoves him into the ringpost shoulder-first, throws him over the barricade into the timekeeper’s area, and orders the ref to count him out, but Rhodes slides back in at 8. McIntyre with mounted punches, stomps on his head, delivers a belly-to-belly throw, covers for 1, and puts him in a submission. Rhodes battles out, McIntyre takes him down with a running elbow strike, and covers for 2. Both men trade shots as the crowd does a dueling chant for both, McIntyre gives him a back body drop, and covers for 2. McIntyre motions for the championship, hops onto the apron, climbs up the turnbuckles, Cody cuts him off, they trade punches, Cody sets up for a big move, and delivers the top rope superplex!
Rhodes battles back, hits the snap powerslam, hits the Disaster Kick, but McIntyre counters the Cody Cutter with a spinning back suplex and covers for a 2-count! Rhodes jabs and jabs, hits the Bionic Elbow, McIntyre plants him with a spinebuster, jackknife pin for 2, delivers the sit-out powerbomb, and gets another near-fall! McIntyre rolls out the ring, grabs the WWE Championship, gets back in the ring, Rhodes snatches it away from him, passes it to the ref, McIntyre hits a quick one-step CLAYMORE, and covers for 1-2-KICKOUT!! “This is awesome! This is awesome!” McIntyre gets him out the ring against the commentary table, goes for the Claymore, but Rhodes blocks him with a punch to the gut, back in the ring, McIntyre tosses him onto the apron and shoves him off sending him crashing through the announce table!! The ref is counting! 1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6… 7… 8… 9… Rhodes is back in the ring!
Rhodes ducks the Claymore, counters the Future Shock, goes for the ropes nearly running into the ref, tweaks his leg, the ref checks on him, but the champ is back up to hit the big Cody Cutter and covers for 2.5!! McIntyre blocks the Cross Rhodes with a kick, blocks it again, shoves him into the referee, and counters the Disaster Kick with the Glasgow Kiss! McIntyre sees the official down, grabs the championship again, Rhodes ducks it, and both men collide in the middle of the ring when they go for simultaneous crossbody blocks. McIntyre crawls to the gold, Cody grabs him for a DDT onto the championship, the ref is getting back up, Rhodes picks up his challenger, hits CROSS RHODES, and covers for 1-2-3!! WINNER and STILL UNDISPUTED WWE CHAMPION: “THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE” CODY RHODES!!
Once again, Drew McIntyre’s plans backfire on him. CM Punk is backstage warming up for his match. We see the damage left behind as Cole and Barrett discuss every match being a title match tonight, leading to a video package for the women’s title match coming up next. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis checks on Tiffany Stratton on if she’s ready to go, and Tiffany adamantly tells him that she’s going out there and ready for a fight.
We see Gabriel Luna, Pauly Shore, Tony Hinchcliffe and Post Malone are in the crowd tonight. Jade Cargill comes out first with her new gear and meaner attitude, and apparently when she busted her head open against the steel steps weeks ago was the turning point where she flipped. Tiffany Stratton comes out next as the defending champion and he left knee is heavily taped. Jason Ayers is the referee for this match and holds up the title on the line.
* WWE Women’s Championship: Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton {C}
The action is hot at the bell with Tiffany going right after her, but Jade tosses her down to land on her hurt knee, hits the pump kick, kicks her leg from under her, and plants her with the choke slam. Jade delivers a pump handle suplex, covers for 2, and does a big biel. Tiffany side-steps her in a corner, tries for the Prettiest Moonsault Ever, but she hurts her knee, so Jade takes advantage and goes on the attack with Stratton in the tree of woe. Jade powers her into the torture rack position, tosses her onto the apron, gets in the ring to break the ref’s count, and heads back out the ring to continue the attack on the champion.
Tiffany trips her into the steel steps, throws her back into the ring, goes up top, Jade cuts her off, Tiffany counters the superplex with a top rope gourdbuster, then hits the Swanton Bomb for a 2-count! Jade clotheslines her, hits the Eye of the Storm torture rack bomb, covers for 2, fallaway slam, another fallaway slam, picks her back up for a third fallaway slam, and covers for another 2-count. Jade delivers the sit-out powerbomb, gets a 2-count, hits a POWERBOMB, another POWERBOMB, picks her back up, hits JADED, and COVERS FOR 3!! WINNER and NEW WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPION: JADE CARGILL!!

* Intercontinental Championship: Penta vs. Rusev vs. “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio {C}
The referee Danilo Anfibio shows off the title, but the fight is on early as both challengers take turns being him down in a corner. They start fighting each other, Penta chops him, Rusev hits a dropkicks, and Mysterio breaks the count. Rusev blocks the Irish whip, blocks a hurricanrana, hits a powerbomb with one arm, delivers the gutwrench suplex, a vertical suplex, and hits the fallaway slam. Rusev goes after the champ outside the ring, Dominik shoves him into the ringpost, Penta hits a dive onto Rusev, and Dominik hits a suicide dive into Penta!
Back in the ring, Penta slaps him on the chest, Dom slaps him back on his chest, Penta slaps him, takes him down, hits the delayed dropkick, covers, but Rusev pulls him out the ring and clotheslines him on the floor. Rusev throws him into the barricade, scares a little kid at ringside, sends him into the steel steps, blocks a suicide dive from Dom and sends him into the announce table. Rusev hits a European uppercut, vows that he’s coming for the title, throws the champ back into the ring, chokes him on the middle rope, kicks him in the back, and continues motioning for the title. Dominik goes for the 619, but Rusev blocks it, puts him in THE ACCOLADE, and Penta kicks Rusev to break the hold!
Penta hits Rusev with the back cracker, covers for 2, kicks him in the head three times, Rusev blocks a springboard with a double axe handle, hits a swinging urinage slam, and covers for 2. Rusev sets him up on the top, haymakers to the head, Penta fights him off, Rusev trips him, the ref checks on Penta, and Dom gets in the ring to toss a chair at Rusev and pretends that he used it on him. Hey Dom, this is a triple threat – so no DQ, and Rusev hits him with the chair for real! Rusev charges to the corner but Penta superkicks the chair into his head, then leaps off of Rusev’s back to hit the MEXICAN DESTROYER to Dominik!! Dom rolls out the ring, Rusev grabs Penta for a back suplex, Penta lands on his feet, kick to the midsection, hits the springboard DDT, and covers for a near-fall!
Rusev blocks the Destroyer, hits the Alabama Slam, charges, Penta side-steps the Machka Kick, blocks an elbow strike, hits the PENTA DRIVER, and covers for 1-2-KICKOUT!!! Penta goes up top, Rusev stops him with the Machka Kick, locks in THE ACCOLADE, and the bell dings but the ref didn’t call for it. Rusev is excited, but it was “Dirty” Dom ringing the bell! Rusev goes after him, brings him over the barricade, Dom still has the bell hammer in his hand, Rusev slams his head into the ringpost, back into the ring, Dom rolls back out, Rusev goes after him beating him up at ringside, and Dom shoves him into the steps. Dom left the hammer in the ring, Penta steps on it to stop him, picks it up, strikes Rusev with the hammer, Dom sends Penta into the ringpost, goes up top, hits the FROG SPLASH onto Rusev, and covers for 3 to steal the victory and retain his title!! WINNER and STILL INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION: “DIRTY” DOMINIK MYSTERIO!!
“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio fights another way to win and retain his title. Jey Uso is in the locker room with Jimmy Uso getting ready for his match. Coming up next, we’ll hear from John Cena about his final opponent in his retirement match.
During an interview, John Cena talks about his realization that he cannot continue to keep going, which is why he is retiring. We get a video package from John Cena about who he wants to face in his last match. His answer is whoever is willing to step up and seize the opportunity, and in a week from Monday in Boston, a 16-man tournament will commence from random superstars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT and “maybe some faces who don’t even work here.” His final opponent will not be hand-picked; it will be earned. “You want some, come get some!” The tournament begins on Raw in Boston on Monday, November 10th, and the winner faces John Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C. on Saturday, December 13th.
We get a video package to hype up the main event to determine the new World Heavyweight Champion. Referee Rod Zapata stands in the ring with the vacant championship. Jey Uso heads out first through the crowd, and Post Malone is happily yeet-ing in the front row behind the Cole and Barrett, and once again during the encore yeets. CM Punk is out next to a rousing applause after the crowd chanted his name. Lilian Garcia is back in the ring for the proper title match introductions, Rod Zapata holds up the title, and the main event is underway!
* World Heavyweight Championship: Jey Uso vs. CM Punk
Both men start with a steady pace in their first one-on-one match, they lock up with the collar-and-elbow tie-up, Punk backs him into a corner, slight shove before he backs up, they lock up again, Jey backs him into a corner, and little shove back, and he backs up. Jey fights off the GTS, rolls him up for 1, they lock up, Punk works over the left arm, side headlock, Jey pushes him off, Punk hits a shoulder block, covers for 1, and goes back to the side headlock. Jey pushes him off, Punk hits a shoulder block, Jey drops down, hits a running forearm smash, Jey stomps on him and punches him, then does a headlock takeover with a couple of 1-counts. Punk pushes him off, Jey hits a shoulder block, Punk picks him up, Jey slips off and exits the ring to regroup.
They lock up again, Jey backs him to a corner, Punk fights back, snapmare, hits four elbow drops, and covers for 2. Punk hits a neckbreaker, covers for 2, chops him on the chest, and Jey catches him with a Samoan drop. Punk counters the spear with a front facelock, hits another neckbreaker, covers for 2, then puts him in a rear chinlock. Jey fights back with heavy punches, Punk reverses an Irish whip, Jey avoids the dropkick, jackknife pin for 2, another cover for 2, another cover, 2-count, Punk bridges out, picks him up, hits the GTS, and Jey falls out the ring!
Punk grabs water to splash on him, gets him back into the ring, delivers a suplex, and covers for 2. Punk sets him up on the top turnbuckle, chops him, Jey blocks a superplex, fights him off, headbutts him to make him fall, Punk ducks under him, Jey fights back, hits the Yeet punch, and hits the running hip attack in the corner. Punk picks him up again, Jey slips off, superkicks him, hits the SPEAR, goes up top, hits the USO SPLASH, and covers for 1-2-KICKOUT!! “This is awesome! This is awesome!”
Jey goes back up top, Punk cuts him off with punches, climbs up to him, delivers the top rope superplex, and both men are down. Post Malone is loving the action. Punk punches, elbows, jabs, Jey punches back, they trade punches into a hockey fight, Punk clotheslines him, back elbow, jumping calf kick, and hits the running knee followed by the bulldog. Punk picks him up, Jey slips off again, superkicks him, Punk falls out the ring, and Jey hits the suicide dive! Referee Rod Zapata is counting both men out, Jey gets back in the ring first, Punk gets back in at 9, rolls out the other side, Jey steps out, charges, and SPEARS PUNK THROUGH THE BARRICADE!! Jey gets him back into the ring, goes up top, Punk gets his knees up to block the Uso Splash, picks him up, hits the GTS, COVERS, 1-2-NO!!!
Punk sets up for a piledriver, Uso counters, hits his own GTS to Punk, runs the ropes, Punk catches Jey with the SPEAR, covers, and gets 2.9!! Punk picks him up again, hits the GTS, kneels down, Jey falls on top of him, Punk stands back up, Jey catches him with the SLEEPER, then Punk counters into the Anaconda Vice!! Jey grabs the bottom rope to save the match and break the hold, Punk drags him to the center of the ring, goes for the Vice again, but Jey rolls him up for the 1-2-NO! Jey superkicks him, hits another superkick, backs up to the corner, charges, Punk catches him with a knee, picks him up, hits the GTS, hits another GTS, AND COVERS FOR THE 1-2-3 TO BECOME THE CHAMPION!!! WINNER and NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: CM PUNK!!!
What a close finish!! CM Punk praises his victory and emotionally holds up the World Heavyweight Championship. Post Malone is ecstatic along with the rest of the crowd. There’s no one here to spoil this victory for CM Punk, the new World Heavyweight Champion!
