Gene Munny Talks His Six-Year Grind, Reinvention

PROGRESS

At PROGRESS Wrestling: 100 Volts, Gene Munny finally captured gold, becoming the new Atlas Champion. What began with him crashing through a doghouse in 2019 has culminated in a career-defining victory six years in the making. In an exclusive interview with PWMania.com, Munny opened up about his journey, pandemic struggles, emotional feuds, and why this title run means everything to him.  You can read the entire interview by clicking here.

Here are some highlights:

On finally winning championship gold:
“Until this moment, I’ve had nothing to show for my time in the company. I’ve had some fantastic matches, but this is the first time I can hold something tangible in my hands.”

On proving himself as champion:
“I like to make people laugh, but I don’t think people understand how good I can be at this. This is an active call-out to every tall boy, fat lad, big kid, and muscle daddy. If you’re over the weight limit, come and try for my championship — and I’ll help you count every light on the ceiling of the Ballroom.”

On his upcoming defense vs. Will Cruse at Chapter 184:
“If he wants to apologize and admit he’s been a very silly nephew, maybe I’ll take it easy on him. Otherwise, I’m going into this match to give that ungrateful piece of trash the comeuppance he deserves.”

Munny also discussed his pandemic reinvention, his feud with Warren Banks, teaming with Session Moth Martina, and his mission to make the Atlas Championship the centerpiece of PROGRESS Wrestling. You can check out the complete interview at this link.
